"Mazzeer! Mazzeer!"

So yes, my last post was a little teary. That's the way it goes these days.

I've charged up the Good Camera and am working on another "things I like about California" post. There are a lot of things. Mostly the whole my husband has a job here and my husband's office hosts two or three awesome food trucks every day, and my husband brought me a Bahn Mi sandwich home for lunch today from the Nom Nom truck. That was A Thing That I Like.

I also like the park I went to this morning. Since Arlo only goes to kindergarten from 8:15-11:38, Lucy and I can't do much in the morning, since I generally want to loll around in my PJs and drink coffee and read the LA Times in paper and the NY Times online. But this morning we had a date to meet a mom and her son from Lucy's preschool at the awesome Brand Park. We met M and sweet W at the playground, swung and swung and swung, and the we made our way over to the Japanese Tea Garden, where we poked things with sticks and cooed over the swimming turtles.

Then some crazy Armenian lady (Glendale is like 30% Armenian, which means that at the fancy mall everyone looks like a low rent Kardashian with fantastic skin) pulled out a full loaf of bread to feed the koi. Hey, at least it was whole wheat, right? But the maintenance guys spoke to her kindly (in Armenian!) and then ducked into the supply shed to give her a brimming handful of koi food. She and her husband proceeded to feed the fish with accepted foodstuffs, gave handfuls to W and Lucy, and after seeing them toss the whole handfuls at once, they said "Maazzer! Maazzer!" which I can only interpret as a dumb white girl from New Jersey as "Mother!" They gave M and me handfuls of the food and then told us to give it to the kids one by one. We did; and it was awesome.

We could have spent hours there painstakingly feeding pellets to gigantic koi and charming wee swimming turtles, but the siren call of Arlo's pickup loomed. We made quick stop to our new local scout council to pick up a Bear book, neckerchief and hat for Oscar.
